The entry period for the Jesus tattoo contest is about to end. Send your God-inspired tattoo to me at theacuffs(at)yahoo.com by midnight on Wednesday, July 23. I am going to get our celebrity judges, who will be announced tomorrow, to pick the best of the best. Then on Monday, I will post them and voting will go on until midnight Sunday, July 27th. As I mentioned earlier, I will include some back story where possible with the finalists.
Here are some entries folks have sent in. If one of these is your tattoo, please feel free to post a comment explaining your inspiration. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
Mine is the hearts and cross with colored points. It is Joshua 24:15 As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.
It does not say Joshua 24:15 because I have a bro-in-law named Joshua and my husband was not down with his name being inked on me even if in a biblical reference.
The hearts are ‘the two shall become one’-me and my husband. Jesus is the center of our family. The color points of the cross are the birthstones of our 4 daughters; August, October, March & March. Grace & Peace, daphne
Hey, that's mine up there at the top! The crowns of thorns on the forearms with Alpha and Omega inside. I got these in February, but they've been in my mind for four years or so. Imagery:
- Crowns of thorns to remind me of Christ's suffering.
- Interior thorns are tipped in red (hard to see in the smallish image up there), again, indicating the suffering of Christ.
- Crowns are each made of three vines, as an example of the trinity: three individual strands making up one crown.
- Alpha and Omega in reference to Jesus' words in Revelation 1:8 and Revelation 22:13.
- The colors/shading in the letters: The black at the bottom is our sin as, well, sinful creatures. The red coming from the top is the blood of Christ covering that sin.
....and I think that's it. As daphne said, I vote for mine! Haha. I love seeing all this ink, though - looks great!
Dude! The 'Son I love you' one is the symbol from that The Crucified album, no? I remember making an embellished drawing of it for my friend when I was 18 or so, and all his roommates ended up getting the same tat from it. But the caption for this one is untoppable! You should have a "Tats for Jesus Inspired by Jesus-loving bands" category. You should see all the P.O.D. tats out there.
The cross with the Chinese writing is mine. The left side says "Mama" and the right side is the date 11-24-83, which is the date my mom passed away, when I was three. I got the tattoo in memory of her and as a way of having God watch over her.
Daphne: I'd love to say that in the spirit of Christian love (side hugs included!), I'd vote for yours, but in the name of all that is awesome I must humbly vote for mine! :o)
Alex, you know I hadn't thought of that... I could start with Alpha, and finish the fight with Omega. Haha, see what I did there?
Crucified is my husband's tattoo. Even though he had explained the meaning behind the tattoo when we first entered the shop, the artist still wanted to know if he could leave the verse reference (Galations 2:20) off because he didn't think it made any sense. That led to a nice discussion of the Bible and why it's words are so powerful and why Ryan really did want those little letters on there. Hopefully the seed will grow in that artist one day.

@Jesse,
ReplyDeleteThose tats are awesome.
When you get hassled in a bar do you go "Let me introduce you to my friends... Alpha and Omega"?
Pow!

ReplyDeleteI missed the deadline because I was at a youth camp teaching about holiness! Really! :-) Good luck to all the contestants.
ReplyDeletePlease run a second tattoo contest, based on tats with denominational ties!
Thanks,
