Dear Parents of Prodigals

Every so often I will receive an email from a parent that says something like this:

"Dear Jon,

You rebelled and broke your life in half. Now you are different and don't hate God. What happened? My child is going through a similar period and I was curious."

I like getting these emails. I try to be honest in what I write so that people will send me emails like this. And although I don't have answers on how to love a prodigal or help a prodigal, I do have a few ideas.

Today I wrote a piece on why the last thing you want to do is sometimes the first thing you should.

Take a look if you get a chance.

  1. My pastor's wife, Kitti Murray, wrote a book about being the parent of a prodigal son. It's called "A Long Way Off." I haven't read it, but a lot of people say it's good. You can look it up on Amazon.com for more details.
