I'm at one. My little brother Bennett is getting married today (Friday) in Florida.
Enjoy a breather from the Stuff Christians Like silliness. Or go old school and read one of the 371 posts you haven't checked out before.
New stuff will be back on Saturday.
Jon
080808 nice!
ReplyDeleteAll the best to your brother and your family on the new addition.
I don't know how many times this has been suggested, and I don't have the patience to double check the archives, but have we covered the topic of [Bridal] Bible Colleges?
ReplyDeleteSuch a good SCL topic...
i second the Bridal College idea.
ReplyDeleteso many people are enrolled in the Ring By Spring program it's ridiculous
Isn't Bridal Bible College where girls go to get their MRS degree?
ReplyDeleteI hope you got him a leg drop of sarcasm as a gift. If not, send him one from all of us. Oh and a side hug for the bride.
ReplyDeleteI thnk we all should also just keep chatting while Jon is away...
ReplyDeleteCan we talk about why I hate weddings? I have since I was a little girl. I got married at a local justice of the peace just down the road in a purple dress. What is wrong with me? I really never wanted one and still dont. I am laying on my couch. GO!
ReplyDelete"I'm at one." Hmmm... My immediate thought was that you were counting your own marriages, looking ahead for number two.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the family!
ReplyDeleteMy thought on seeing the title was, "Christians like weddings because weddings get rid of single people, and Christians hate single people." I think you should write a post on that phenomenon - though it may not go over that well, since only Christian single people seem to be aware of it.
RE: mella dp
ReplyDeleteI just read your comment to my co-worker and we had a good laugh about it...because it's true. One of the proofs is that there's always single vs couples pricing on events. So couples pay less per person than a single person. What? Just because we're single they think we're loaded? :) Good times.
nothing to do with any thing, but Shaun Groves made a great post about SCL on his blog Shlog today...you should read.

@randomdtd - I'd almost love it if my church had a double standard like that, because that would mean they were acknowledging the existence of unmarried people over the age of 18. I'd love it if just once someone would ask me my name before telling me that I ought to get married...
ReplyDeleteBut I guess that's what I deserve for not getting my MRS at Bridal College.
August 8, 2008. Good day. Be blessed and congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha that Shaun Groves blog is great.
ReplyDeleteone of my good friends from high school is getting married today! yeah for 8 8 08 weddings!
ReplyDeletecongrats to your brother and family! hope you guys have a blessed fun time.
ReplyDeleteand you should do a post on which passage was read during the wedding or preached on by the pastor, what the "special song" was, and what song(s) the bridal party walked in on during the reception. i always found those interesting :)
Omg Mella dp,
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the only one who thought that christians hate single people .Why is that?
and all the unwanted advice
"Enjoy your singleness"
and the all time favorite
"Wait in the Lord"
Ok , married people we get it, thank you.
I cant't wait to hear what Jon has to say on this topic.
Thanks, Josh Robinson for that link to the Shaun Groves blog! That was great. Makes me even more happy I married a guitar guy. :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's tacky to leave a link to my blog here. I wouldn't normally do it. Generally my blog is about infertility, but I wrote a post to single people recently that was genuinely from my heart. I'm a Christian who loves single people!
ReplyDeleteCheck it out if you want:

I agree - if there has not been a blog about Bridal Colleges then there should be.
ReplyDeleteI went to Word of Life ("to find a wife) Bible Institute or "Word of Life Bridal Institute."
I wonder if there are schools like this for Mormons or Muslims.
so which of you guys went to a bridal college? I did. Complete with gazebos that people always got proposed in. And sometimes married in.
ReplyDeleteHaha I know this has nothing to do with anything but Jon you should do a post on The __ Different Types of SCL Commenters. That would be funny..
ReplyDeleteI am going to a wedding for one of my best friends tomorrow and *gasp* there will be dancing at the reception. Those heathens! I guess their Southern Baptist uprising has meant nothing to them. Seriously I'm scared about the dancing God might strike us down with lightning.
ReplyDeleteAs for Christian's hating single people, it is most definitely true. My life is proof.
Christi-
ReplyDeleteI think you mean upbringing, but there might be a Southern Baptist uprising at any mention of dancing in a church. :)
Hilarious, Mella db! I second the motion to write what christians like - eharmony; the cliches they bestow upon singles, etc.
ReplyDeleteMella - I don't know if Christians hate single people, but it can certainly be awkward and difficult being a Christian single. I feel your pain! By the way, I can vouch for Stacey's love for us singles and highly recommend her blog!
ReplyDeleteMella db:
ReplyDeleteProps to you.
BTW (totally off subject), I've got one that Christian teens like- the Lifehouse Everything Skit. If you haven't seen it, you need to watch it.

"Ring by Spring"
ReplyDelete"Senior Scramble"
What do those of us do who have actually read every word? Cry? Ok.
ReplyDeleteHowie, you are totally right I did mean upbringing but my fear caused my words to get all confused
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the usual excerpt from Corinthians.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet this has never happened to any of you at a wedding.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.desiringgod.org/Blog/1295_Responding_to_the_Poet/
What about how christians like to debate over using different versions of the Bible? And having the newest, best, "most accurate" one?
ReplyDeleteI had another one but I can't remember it now....
@ Stacey - great link, not tacky. And, speaking from the other side of the analogy, I think you're right on.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mella DP (and Andrea)
ReplyDelete:)
(Side hug)
I see your "Christians hate single people," and I raise you one, "Christians especially hate married people who haven't had kids yet after 10 years."
ReplyDeletehere is an idea: feeling guilty about watching the olympics when you know God would want you to boycott them.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused. Why would God want us to boycott the Olympics?
ReplyDeleteJon, you're in Florida right now?! That's where I am!!
Going on the marriage / single / family / kids theme, here are two more future SCL post suggestions:
* Not knowing what to do with people who are or have been divorced
* Not knowing what to do with people who are choosing not to have kids
PS: Rachel, I believe Jon did write a post about eHarmony-type services. It's hilarious. Hold on a sec while I go find it so you can read it . . .
#145: Weird Christian Dating Sites
Hey, I have an idea.I vote for a "Stacey From Louisville" guest blog. And mella dp, and Dorothy, Vicar of Vibe.
ReplyDeleteOr maaaaaaaaaaaaaybeeeeeeee give them a TV show!!!
They could be "Jonny's Angels" and pose in shadows, swish their awesome hair and point their guns and stuff. Their moves would involve wit, wisdom and leg dropping all the freaks who think the King James is relevant beyond the occasional funeral for old people. (That's pretty much all people over my current age.)
And they'd be the hot bride's maids in unwrinkled linen frocks at the cool wedding where the groom's men wore screen print t's and hip jeans.
Oh, and The Rock loves to sing Elvis tunes to them.
Anyone else want Jon back?
jennym,
ReplyDeleteare you really just "stacey from louiville" posting under another name? :)
so I"m a little bit happier because Jon's in my state.............is that weird?
ReplyDeletejennym,
ReplyDeleteto answer your question:
YES!
So I am in college and back when I was looking at colleges I looked at a Bible College that didn't allow dating. They tried to say it was to help you not have distractions from God as you were studying but I know it was really to try and not let the college become a Bridal College
ReplyDeleteI just posted about Christian weddings...specifically Christians who wait to kiss until their wedding. Yeah.
