I have a new website. If you only ever write one comment on any of my sites, I honestly hope it is this new one, because I think we've got the chance to do something pretty cool. Please come see what I'm talking about.
great. how am i supposed to keep up with all four of your sites? already having trouble with three. geesh. kidding. I will find a way. your, um, wait. God's writing is brilliant.
Awesome idea for site. On a related note I once had my leg slapped (really!!) for wearing shorts to church, together with a telling off. And no, I wasn't 7, I was about 25. Why is it that you think of the awesome comebacks after the event? BTW Jeans were frowned upon. In the end, anyone who didn't end up leaving ended up looking like the pastor - even down to identical goatee beards!! Weird!!
I think that it is a great idea as well. Was trying to recommend some churches to someone earlier this year that moved to a new city and this would have been helpful. One suggestion would be to have this on a Wiki type site where people could add to/edit each church collaboratively.
Your Can I Wear Jeans? site is cool. There is another site I just discovered that's similar called flockfinder.com. Ignoring the name and the cheesy sheep cartoon pictures on their site, it's actually a really useful site. Too bad churches have to pay to be listed there. =o/
Dude, awesome idea. Hilarious that there are still some "awesome's" and "amazing's" but I love the idea. About time - why hasn't the come up before? THANKS!
Great idea! But please please PUH-lease! move away from the povo blogger format for this. There are heaps of good free website templates and things, and I'm sure some whizz kid at your work could knock one up in a few minutes. don't think - just do it!
This is a great idea, but most of the posts don't answer my main questions. :-)
The most common describers for worship seems to be contemporary/edgy/loud and the most common describers for teaching are Culturally relevant/practical/applicable and Biblical.
(I have an urge to post a fake church and say the worship is conducted in whispers and the teaching is impractical and boring. I won't, because this is a good idea and I don't want to make light of it.)
Here's what I want to know about churches.
How large are you?
Do you have small groups?
What age ranges-percentages are there? (Mostly young, mostly families, mostly older adults, etc.)
Does you pastor teach topically or exegetically? (Some people do put this in their descriptions, but not most.)
How charismatic are your services? (I have no problem with things like speaking in tongues or being slain in the spirit, but it's disconcerting when you're not expecting it.)
How does your church view children/teenagers? (This was actually well covered in the childcare/jeans questions, but I thought I'd throw it in. It's always good to know if your church has a "children should be seen and not heard policy.)
How does your church view older people? (It makes me sad when we discount our older adults. Someday I will be elderly, and so will you. Will there be a place in the church for us?)
How many potlucks do you have and when are they? (Going to a new church on potluck day is like winning the lottery.)
Just my two cents....
PS. I don't like the phrase "culturally relevant" anyway. I'm from suburban North Idaho, and what is culturally relevant to me is probably way different then what is culturally relevant to someone from inner-city New York. The culture of Baton Rouge, Louisiana is not the culture of Seattle, Washington. I'm just saying.
Looks like a great site, I will put it on my feed reader and keeping checking it out.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this site. I hope we will soon be able to read the posts where people were able to find a new church home and family.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up!

ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific idea! Thanks! Here's my question: What does it mean when you won't recommend your church?
