My wife loves this girl named Brooke on American Idol. But it's not that she thinks she's a particularly good singer or that she's in possession of gobs and gobs of talent. The reason she likes her, the reason that so many Christians across the country dig her? She seems Christian. The key word in that sentence is "seems." She hasn't said that she is but at one point she admitted she had never gone to an R rated movie. Is that a reason to vote for her in a singing competition? Maybe not, but we love to pull for Christians. Love your neighbor? Sure. Vote for cute little David the Mormon instead of the possible believer Brooke? You'll have to convince my wife.Update: A reader sent me an article where Brooke talked about being a Mormon. We'll always have Chris Daughtry.

Hope this doesn't disappoint your wife too much. Brooke is still my favorite. :)
I just stumbled across your blog today and I have laughed multiple times already!
You're being added to my google reader ;)
I'll pray for you! (seriously -- at least this one time
I think Brooke's voice is depressing and too 'femi-folky' in the vein of Lilleth Fair. I like Carly and I am a Christian.
You might not realize it or believe her, but as a fellow Mormon (and Christian) I can guarantee that if you asked Brooke White if she were Christian, she would say yes.
This is *extremely* deceptive and manipulative on her part, to insinuate she's a Christian (that is, a mainstream Christian in the Evangelical sense), when in fact she's a Mormon who believes the rest of us are not getting into heaven. This should be exposed.
My Grandparents got suckered by one of the email lists going around, asking people to call in & vote for her just because of her "Christian faith"... even if they don't watch the show! All of this is based on a lie.
I have heard from an inside source that Jason Castro is a Christian and recently attended Sunday Services at Saddleback Church in Cali.
So as not to sound too shady, my "inside source" is my husband who has a friend that works in the Youth Ministry at Saddleback. The friend said that a bunch of them went to lunch with Jason after church and that he is "a really, REALLY nice guy."
(love your site, by the way!)
My friend (another one of those "my friend" stories) said that her brother and Jason Castro are friends and go to church together in Rockwall, TX (where Jason is from.) I also heard that he sings on the worship team there. So if we're voting "christian," go with Jason. If we're voting talent, you decide.
Sorry for so many comments today. I just discovered your site and am reading in order from post #1. :)
this post is hilarious, especially with me being a late reader, which means I read it after the update. i work for a very large christian university, and last year, they sent out a mass email to all students, staff, faculty, and alumni, encouraing us to vote for Phil on American Idol because he once took a distance learning class from our university and was therefore a great specimen of Christianity. i couldn't stand Phil's voice. i voted for Sanjaya.
Except that half the contestants on Top Chef are gay...
Yeah, so the "insider" comments about Jason Castro are true. I live 20 minutes down the road from the town he lives in and went to his church (Lake Pointe) for 14 years. I know so many people who know him that it's ridiculous.
He's sung on stage up at LPC ("Clumsy" by Chris Rice...and changed the "thirty years" line to "twenty years"...haha), and I know that the worship leader (friend of my family) wouldn't let Jason sing up there unless he was indeed a Believer.
Nifty trivia...my family taught Jason Castro's Bible study class when he was 5.
Oh wow. I liked that guy with the fro whose job was to make Simon cry. Lol. Chris Sligh. He has a song on the radio right now.
But I liked Brooke too. And I can't believe no one has mentioned Mandisa. Don't you guys remember when she basically witnessed to Simon? That was a moment indeed.
The reason I like Christian singers is because they actually realize their talent is a gift from God and they are more than likely using it for His glory. :-)
I recently found your blog, and I am catching up on the posts. I know many Christians who are FSU fans because Bobby Bowden is a Christian. Or they like the Washington Redskins because Joe Gibbs is a Christian. I find this sort of loyalty weird. I mean, we should support our brothers and sisters in Christ, but just because I like a school other than FSU does not mean I am Saul trying to murder Christians.
I'm sad that no one mentioned Melinda Doolittle.

This is soooo me! but America seems to agree too... Many American Idol winners are Christian. Kelly Clarkson, Reuben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood (*cough Jesus take the wheel), Jordin Sparks and our latest Kris Allen.
All the practice they get in church helps. :]
